Michael Erb

Michael Erb is a RIEEE research scientist and a research associate professor in the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. His work focuses on greenhouse gas accounting, the intersections of climate and health, and other climate-relevant projects. Through data analysis, visualization, and scientific communication, he assists other faculty with new and ongoing research.

Michael received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Rutgers University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University’s neighbor institution, the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Estimating carbon emissions from around the world

Fuel use is an important part of the global economy, but excessive carbon emissions are warming the earth. The CDIAC at AppState project gathers data about fuel usage form the United Nations and elsewhere, as well as cement production data, to estimate carbon emissions around the world.
